Choosing a Location for your Saltwater Aquarium

One of the more important decisions is the location of your saltwater aquarium. Your aquarium needs to be in a place where the temperature is as constant as possible. Avoid direct sunlight or heater and air conditioning ducts. If your aquarium gets any direct sunlight during the day it will not be a constant tempeture for your fish. Plus you will have a greater problem with algae due to direct sunlight and the ultraviolet rays.

The location of your saltwater aquarium shouldn’t be in the way of normal everyday traffic in and out of the room or hallway. You need to leave enough space between the back of your aquarium for easy access to clean and maintain aquarium equipment such as pumps and filters. Electrical connections should be close by. String extension cords and power strips is not only dangerous, but unsightly and unprofessional looking.

Be wary of placing your aquarium in rooms where too much activity or traffic could damage your aquarium such as game rooms. Pool tables and glass aquariums probably shouldn’t be in the same rooms.
